Study links inflammation-promoting gut microbiota to Alzheimer

Gut microbes have been found to be strongly linked to Alzheimer's — could this mean hope for treating the disease?

The research between gut health and mental health is ongoing, yielding new results:

  • 2023 study published in Brain indicates that the gut microbiome could play a causal role in the onset of Alzheimer, a common type of dementia
  • It was found that patients with Alzheimer disease had a great number of inflammation-promoting bacteria in their stools
  • Importantly, the presence of the inflammation-bacteria correlated with cognitive impairment

These findings could significantly inform the development of prevention and intervention methods.
